David Joel completed his first composition at the age of 5; he wrote a song called “Dr. Wheeler” and performed the song for Dr. Wheeler and anyone else who would listen. At age 13, David began carving statues from various scraps of fire wood.

Today, he is a painter, sculptor, writer, and musician. Most recognized for works that allude to WPA era social realism, David continues to explore a wide range of subjects, mediums and methodologies.

In an attempt to offer insight into his unique and involved process, David has produced a DVD documenting his efforts to create the mural “Commerce: Common Ground for the Sisters’ Story.
